“I’m a big fan of Aman properties, but I think I might just have found my favorite... Amanjiwo means ‘restful soul’ and this is truly one of the most peaceful places I have had the pleasure of vacationing at. It is opposite the world’s largest Buddhist sanctuary and surrounded by jungle-covered hills and volcanoes. I spent a few days just chilling out on-site. The spa uses traditional Javanese treatments and is a really soothing space.
However, the urge to explore eventually found me and I spent a day in Yogyakarta (an hour away). The city is the home of batik and I highly recommend picking up some beautiful fabrics while there. If you are more into nature, then definitely take a jungle hike or elephant ride. There is some spectacular scenery around here - it took my breath away even after four days. There are just over 30 suites, all decorated in a contemporary yet Javan style. Coconut wood, hand-carved screens and local textile give a real sense of place, and there are lovely gardens and terraces.”

Relaxation in a wow location.
Either as a couple or on your own. There was enough to keep me occupied that a few days of solo travel was enjoyable and restorative rather than lonely.
The best time to visit the Borobudor Temple opposite the resort is at sunset - magical.
Best time to go
The climate is best June - September, although you can expect warm, tropical weather year-round. The wet season runs November to April, but there are always sunny spells between the showers.
Yogyakarta airport is just one hour away but I preferred to fly into Solo and take the scenic two-hour drive - it really set the pace for the rest of the trip.
