“This has to be one of the most beautiful locations for a hotel in the world – simple breath-taking. Amankila was designed by Ed Tuttle to really make the most of its situation above the Lombok Strait. The hotel sits on top of a cliff, with a paved path descending 75 feet down to the beach club. Everything has been crafted to make the most of the views, from the three-tiered pool (apparently designed to mirror the regions rice paddies) to the floor-to-ceiling windows in the library.
I highly recommend asking for a sea view when you book. Although it is modern, the hotel also reflect the local area, with wood, cane and lush gardens. There are just 34 rooms in 20 acres, all situated in free-standing villas with cane ceilings and connected by elevated walkways. We had the Indrakila Suite, which overlooks the ocean and has a private pool and terrace. Well worth it. Service is excellent and staff have a host of suggestions for activities in the area, form visiting local villages to water sports.”

A relaxed yet refined way to experience the island.
The setting really lends itself to romance.
For a special occasion we booked the entire beach club and had a romantic bonfire-lit dinner a deux. Perfect.
Best time to go
May – September is the dry season, but showers the rest of the year tend to be intense but shot-lived.
The restaurant is good but not as impressive as the rest of the hotel.
