Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
“Nestled in the gardens of Cape Town, the Belmond Mount Nelson is a garden heaven, with a classic set up yet extremely contemporary. I came with my husband on a spontaneous trip abroad, and we couldn’t have been happier with our decision. We wanted a place that was tranquil but in the middle of a busy city, and that’s exactly what we experienced there. This “pink palace” and the grounds are vast and beautiful.
Our suite was very old world glamour which is right up my alley! It faced the mountains and had beautiful views of the table mountain and lions head. It was hard to believe it was real. The first morning we were there, we had a fabulous breakfast with many different options including champagne, smoothies and juices. We quickly came to find that the guests were just as fabulous as the staff! We made friends during the trip, and all decided to splurge at the chef’s table! It seats only 12 in an alcove in the kitchen and was such a unique experience! We had the place to ourselves and the total attention from the chefs and waitress. The food was a five course meal with wine pairings, all of which were phenomenal.”

A holiday where you can feel like you’re at home, but set in the most amazing setting imaginable. The gardens alone are worth the trip! You’re also close enough the hustle and bustle of the city to experience it all, but can feel relaxed when you get back to your suite.
I had the best time with my husband and we made lots of other couple friends. However, there were many families around and they all seemed to have just as much fun as we did!
Afternoon tea in the garden. This is big deal at the hotel, and they sure do pull out all the stops. There’s nothing more enjoyable than an amazing cup and tea and treats, paired with an exceptional view, great service, and special company.
Best time to go
I would recommend shoulder seasons: March to May and September to November. The weather is best, there are fewer crowds, and lower prices.
There are a multitude of safaris to book, but they go fast so book far in advance as you don’t want to miss them!
Rooms start at $400 a night, depending on rates and availability.
