Carmel Valley Ranch
“This 500-acre property is a do-it-yourself Canyon Ranch type of resort. The property itself (nestled in the Santa Lucia mountains) is hilly and pretty, there are fitness classes offered all day long, tennis courts, a basketball court, a lap pool and additional ‘sunning’ pool with Jacuzzi and 18-hole Pete Dye designed golf course. With kids, you’d be happy to have them off on their own either on foot or taking the chauffeur driven golf carts from activity to activity – and the large guest ‘villas’ can easily suit a family with young kids, or book two adjoining if traveling with teens. The restaurant served some of the freshest, best food we had in the area, utilizing most everything they can from their own organic garden and small purveyors in the region.
While the style of architecture is neither inspiring nor stylish, all of the spaces both public and private, are lovely, comfortable and just have that happy/healthy vibe. Staff tops it off – helpful, can do mentiality. Highly recommend it!"

We hiked the property the first morning and smelled the most gorgeous flowering bushes coming into full bloom!
Best time to go
All year round. It never gets too hot and in Jan/ Feb can be sunny and warm. The region averages 300 days of sunshine per year …
One has to drive approximately 10 minutes to area restaurants and activities. Be careful not to indulge too too much with the excellent regional wines and get stuck !
From $375 to $850, dependent on season and villa type
