Coral Reef Club

ST JAMES, BARBADOS

“Island life as it should be. The private suites are embedded within flowered gardens — simply sublime. Wandering along the pathways is like being in a lost world of sunshine, relaxation and nature. Indulge in water sports, or just sit on the verandah and read — whatever, whenever... A top pick of only two great resorts in Barbados.”

Great for
Memories in the making with loved ones. Great photo opps.

With whom
Multi-generational family or just the core family.

Memorable moment
Totally relaxing, playing board games in the outdoor bar, enjoying the weather but cooled by the fans.

Best time to go
November to May is the best weather. Closed 21 May – 20 July 2011

With the kids
Great idea! The property is family-friendly, kids adore it, and the west coast has the calmest waters.

Be aware
Most staff are relaxed and professional, but some can be a bit aloof.

Room options
88 rooms, cottages and suites set amidst 12 acres of gardens. Plantation style: white-washed, beamed ceilings, shutters and verandahs. Contemporary classic styling and furnishings.

Service & vibe
Relaxed and discreet, but we were never left wanting

Food
The Restaurant serves up a daily changing menu of Caribbean inspired dishes overlooking the sea. Good food.

Price
From $245

Costs less to go
During summer but storms are more common.

To Do & See
12 acres of lush gardens to wander. Further afield: Four Square Rum Factory, St Nicholas Abbey in St Lucy and swimming with turtles

Sport & Activity
All sorts of water sports (of course!) but also polo, golf, tennis, cricket, fishing and riding

Spa & Grooming
Oh my... two stories of blissful treatments using Natura Bissé products. Take time to hang out in the steam room and relaxation quarters after your treatment to really make the most of it. Expensive. Worth It.

To Eat
The Fish Pot is a charming, casual spot: the perfect beach eat. Breezy interiors, right on the sand and serving fresh fish (try the lobster). (Little Good Harbour Hotel, Shermans, St. Peter, Barbados; +246 439 3000)

To Buy
Hand-made island ceramics at Earthworks; gorgeous silk kaftans from Barefoot on the Beach (St James).
