PISCO ELQUI, CHILE
“I read about Elqui Domos a few years ago and knew that the next time I was in South America I’d have to check it out. My stay was everything I expected – rural, relaxing, and very special. I didn’t come here for luxury, but rather for a magnificent astronomical experience – and that’s exactly what I got! From the Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes to the two-hour horseback night tour of the valley, there are so many ways to enjoy the most beautiful night sky you’ll ever see. The staff is quite small, but very kind. The food is actually delicious! I particularly loved breakfast. The pool is refreshing, and the accommodations (though cool looking from the outside) are mostly just functional. Not quite ‘glamping’, but truly an incredibly unique experience!”

Escaping the city lights, stargazing under the clearest night sky.
Falling asleep every night, staring up at the stars through my dome’s open-air roof. It was completely out of this world, unlike any evening sky I’ve ever seen – a stunning expanse of twinkling lights overhead and the glorious sound of silence. Simply majestic!
Best time to go
All year round. My rec: time your visit with a new moon when the stars are at their brightest.
This place is pretty off the beaten path, so if you plan of visiting the neighboring villages you’ll need a car. It’s about an hour and a half walk to the closest town.
From $125 to $150, dependent on season.
