Hotel Marques de Riscal
“I’m a huge fan of Frank Gehry (the man behind the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao), so when my wife suggested a wine-weekend in Rioja, I knew exactly where I wanted us to stay. The Hotel Marques de Riscal is truly an architectural masterpiece. Extraordinarily unique, ultra-modern and lying above Rioja’s oldest winery - the hotel’s titanium exterior provides a sharp contrast to the historic surroundings. Plus it’s in a prime location, perfect for exploring the Rioja area.
Every employee on site was polite and helpful; the quality of service exceeded my expectations. I fell in love with wine and food, while my wife continues to moon about the views and spa, where she got a signature Crushed Cabernet Scrub followed by a stimulating Wine Maker’s Massage. Needless to say, we will certainly return for another Rioja escape.”

A handful of days exploring the Rioja wine country.
Either a partner or a group of wine-loving friends.
My wife and I took a tour of the famed Marques de Riscal winery – what a highlight! It was so interesting seeing the difference between a commercial focused winery vs. the older, local vineyards that I’ve visited. We learned about many different treatments and the history of the wine making process in Rioja. Then, of course, we had the pleasure of tasting two of the Marques wines – I thoroughly recommend the Grand Reserva and Blue Label Marques Reserva. Tip: The tour is complimentary with your stay, but I suggest making a reservation in advance as spots book up quickly.
