L’Andana

TUSCANY, ITALY

“My girlfriend and I wanted an isolated, Italian getaway (think Under The Tuscan Sun… her words, not mine). We were recommended L’Andana by her family and after hearing what they had to say about it, we booked a four night stay right away. The property is tucked away in the hills of Maremma, surrounded by trees and vineyards. Maremma is a brilliant place, with the national park half an hour’s drive away and which we found great for walking the rolling hills.

Back at L’Andana, we upgraded to a suite with several rooms, a fireplace and Jacuzzi. It was one of the most beautiful suites I’ve ever seen, with an enormous bathroom tiled with Tuscan mosaics. The views too were beautiful and showcased the Maremman country side. We looked forward to breakfast every morning, with cakes, croissants, fresh juices, etc., and worked it off with bike rides through the country, some swimming and a few friendly games of tennis. The Michelin-starred restaurant on property is not to be missed, and there are also many great options nearby (5 minutes’ drive) if you feel the need to switch it up. This place was a secret haven in what feels like the middle of nowhere, and we couldn’t have been more pleased. We’ll certainly continue to take her family’s recommendations seriously in the future!”

Great for
Experiencing romantic Tuscany in a place with perfect, understated Italian charm.

With whom
It’s such a romantic place, but we also saw some families taking full advantage of the bike and swamp tours! However, I’m glad we went as a couple.

Memorable moment
Walking the grounds and vineyard and spotting the horned cattle was a delight. We also walked up to the ancient church at the top of the mountain and it truly did feel like a piece of heaven. Well worth the trek!

Best time to go
Mid-September was perfect for being outside, and still warm enough to enjoy the outdoor pools.

Be aware
If you’re looking for somewhere with lots of sights and local interests, then this area isn’t for you. It’s more of a place to relax in quiet elegance, with far fewer tourists.
