Lime Wood

“This place is not to be missed! We went for a simple weekend break and left feeling as if we had taken a decadent vacation, completely refreshed and unplugged from life back in the city. Where to start… The service achieves the perfect balance of warmth and efficiency, never overbearing yet somehow always available. The hotel interiors just pristine, classic-luxe with soothing hints of greens and blues throughout – the public spaces are wonderful for afternoon tea and evening cocktails.

The food is fresh and delectable, no matter where you choose to eat, whether at the upscale Hartnett, Holder & Co., the casual Scullery, or at the healthy/spa cuisine Raw and Cured. And speaking of spa, you must visit it. Get a treatment or just use the facilities, it’s so worth it. I loved the mud house and sun deck, which had it’s own little herb garden. I could go on and on, but quite simply, this hotel is superb.”

Great for
A weekend holiday out of town, a spa retreat, a wedding here would be lovely!

With whom
I’d consider this to be a couples destination, but it should be noted (because I asked) that the Lime Wood is very good to their child guests – children’s cots, menus, bikes, scooters, and babysitters all available. Next time we will try with the kids. Pets welcome too! (We brought our small greyhound.)

Memorable moment
I’m a real sucker for beautiful (and spacious) bathrooms, so when I walked into ours I knew immediately I’d have to set aside an hour each day for soaking in the spectacular claw-foot tub (garden view included), enjoying the enormous rain-shower and delicious Bamford botanic bath products. Absolutely blissful. The rest of our room was equally outstanding – impeccable décor all beige, white and silvery-blue with a luscious four-poster bed piled high with pillows.

Best time to go
Oh I couldn’t imagine a bad time of year here… Bike rides in the summer, forest walks (Wellies available to borrow) in the fall, fireplace coziness in the winter, horse riding in the spring.

Be aware
Was a bit disappointed that breakfast wasn’t included in the rates, but I got over it. Won’t stop me from returning.
