Little Kulala Lodge

KULALA WILDERNESS RESERVE, NAMIBIA

“Absolutely magical lodge in the Namibian desert, near the red dunes of the famous Sand Sea in Sossusvlei. It's very at one with the natural surroundings: all neutral colors, bare rock buildings and thatched roofs... However, all of this is mixed with a stylish and modern vibe and plenty of opportunities to explore the area.”
- Suzanne (Date Experienced: January 2009)

Great for
Desert adventures and rare game viewers

With whom
Very romantic, leave kids at home (must sleep under the stars on top of your hut at least one night)

Memorable moment
Climbing the Sossusvlei and running down its side was one of the most amazing physical experiences I've ever had. Let alone the sunsets...

Best time to go
November to March

Be aware
Service and food are lacking, but look where you are! Who cares really? Plan your Namibia trip with a specialist destination expert. (Email us for a destination expert recommendation)

Room options
There are 11 private Kulalas. Very open, with glass walls allowing plenty of light. Outdoor showers, bed can be made on the roof of your hut.

Service & vibe
Service haphazard; general atmosphere is welcoming – and the setting breathtaking.

Food
Nothing to write home about – but this isn't the reason you're here.

Price
From $560 per person, per night includes meals and most activities

Costs less to go
Certain time frames are more negotiable than others – email the hotel or your destination expert

To Do & See
It's all about getting out and about into the desert. Not much game viewing (although wildlife such as ostrich, spring bok and aardworlfs do live here) so concentrate on seeing the scenery via hikes and drives.

Sport & Activity
Challenging terrain, so any excursion can become energetic if you want it to. Take an early morning balloon ride to see the desert as it wakes up.

Spa & Grooming
No spa there but each Kulala has a plunge pool for cooling off in.

Where
Kulala Wilderness Reserve, Namibia

Getting there
Arrive at Windhoek International Airport in Namibia and be flown via small private planes to each lodge/area or be driven if small planes don't suit.
