Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel
SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA
“If you’re flying in and out of LAX, this is the perfect place to start and end your trip – or of course if you're looking to be beach based and affordable. I recently stayed at Loews Santa Monica while in LA on business, and was surprised to discover what a solidly good family hotel it is. The setup of the hotel is dramatic with atrium windows and giant, paneled windows on every floor to fully appreciate the beach landscape and view of the iconic pier.
Along with the views, the location works well for those of us who like being on bike/foot in lieu of fighting crazy traffic. As it’s so centrally located, there really is something for everyone, which meant kiddies happily seen around the pool or venturing out for beach biking, nearby 3rd Street promenade, a large handful of restaurant within 5 min walk away... I do wish I’d had time to take advantage of the full schedule of fitness classes and spa, but next time...!”
Insider tip: If you’re looking for a delicious very casual breakfast spot, the café next door on Ocean Avenue called Cora’s Coffee Shoppe – with an enormous menu of fresh yummies, and the picturesque patio setting just added to the experience.

If you like easy/casual and on the beach, this hotel is ideal when it comes to location.
Take the whole family! The kids will love the pier nearby, large pool and sunsets in the outdoor hottub.
My favorite area of the hotel is the lower pool deck, which houses several fire pits around the pool with sofas looking out over the pacific. After a particularly long day, it was nice to unwind there and watch the sunset while enjoying a glass of wine… ahhhh…
Best time to go
You typically can’t go wrong with Santa Monica weather. December was perfect!
This is not a stylish, hip nor luxe hotel – but it's more than functional and in my opinion the fair prices, location and room sizes along with the pool area well make up for the lack of charm.
Rooms start at $300 per night.
