The Mayflower Grace
“A little gem awaits you in beautiful Litchfield County, Connecticut. Built among 3000 acres of nature preserve, sits a small, luxurious hotel and spa that made for our very relaxing and therapeutic stay. The Mayflower Grace Hotel (formerly the Mayflower Hotel) is a perfect two-hour get-a-way from NYC/ the general area - I already want to return! The beautifully re-stored buildings and the manicured landscape set the scene for a memorable stay. Heated outdoor pool, tennis court, putting green, an exceptional spa with indoor pool, fitness classes given by expert instructors in large, light filled studios complete the picture.
Each of the 30 spacious guest rooms is furnished with well-chosen antiques and reproductions and the pale colored walls and fabrics are restful and pretty. We stayed in room 24,with a view of the Shakespearean maze garden as well as a 4-poster bed which felt like a cloud. Our stay (mid-April) was a lovely time to visit, but I would be happy to return anytime to experience all the seasons and do more touring around of the many historic towns and gardens in the area.
This is one of the finest country style retreats in the Northeast. Worth it!”

A quick escape to a beautifully quiet spot in the countryside. Nothing is lacking, including all the fitness classes you love in the city: barre classes, body sculpting, yoga, pilates, aquatic classes and stretch classes. It’s all here and all classes are complimentary. Private and customized classes are also available.
In such picture-perfect surroundings and with so many great amenities, go for a romantic weekend or go with your girlfriends as my neighbor did, for a memorable birthday celebration. A solo reading, hiking chill out weekend would be fabulous. Celebrations of any sort, weddings, too!
We arrived on a chilly, rainy day in spring. Walking into the cozy library with a big roaring fireplace was the perfect antidote to a grey day.
Although there is no charge for Wifi, not all cellphone networks work so check with the hotel if important, in advance.
The guest rooms are situated among four beautiful buildings. The newest is adjacent to the spa, if you prefer being close to all the spa activities and treatments. Ours was a deluxe room in the main building, a short walk to the spa.
Service & vibe
Just as you would expect from a 5 Star Relais & Chateaux hotel... professional and friendly. Vibe: casual elegance, professional, all about a cushy stay.
Lunch and dinner are served in the newly remodeled dining room…pale violet and blue… subtle and chic. The spacing provides quiet conversation, the dining chairs are comfortable and the service, attentive. The menu offers seasonal and locally sourced choices. Breakfast is served in an adjacent sun-filled room, equally lovely. Weather permitting, you can dine al fresco on the terrace.
Price per night
Rooms from $400 per night; season depending (up to $2250 per night for a large suite)
To Do & See
The town of Litchfield is a must for shopping - not to be missed: the Litchfield Fresh-Farm Market, filled with local cheeses, meats, breads and sweets. Next stop, the well-regarded White Flower Garden Center. Even if you don’t have a green thumb, you’ll be impressed by the bountiful display of perennials, annuals, heirloom seeds and bulbs. A 10-minute drive from the hotel takes you to Mt. Tom State Park where there are trails for hiking and great views. There is also a lovely bike path along Lake Waramaug and from there you can stop for some pleasant shopping in tiny New Preston. Don’t forget to include Kent and West Cornwall, a short distance from town. Have a look at their site for a guide to local activities.
