The Opposite House

BEIJING, CHINA

“Uber cool, Kuma-designed haven of minimalism. Expect your fellow hotel guests to be impeccably attired, arty advertising-types oozing androgynous sex appeal.”

Great for
Business or leisure – I wouldn’t say this is “romantic”, but it's definitely achingly hip with fabulously creative restaurant concepts. We loved our clever room design and especially the very linear bathroom. The timber tub is beautiful to look at and super deep, but not so comfortable!

With whom
We really enjoyed this hotel as a weekend getaway, but I can imagine it's great for groups of friends or a business trip, if your appointments are around the Sanlitun side of town.

Memorable moment
Our hotel concierge took the trouble to personally walk us to 1949 Duck de Chine (the famed, and original in Sanlitun) when we got hopelessly lost... now that is service!

Best time to go
I would recommend avoiding Chinese holiday seasons, when swarms of domestic visitors crowd everywhere. Perfect timing including mild pleasant weather is September-October, or spring time. Summer can be oppressively warm and polluted.

Be aware
Some of Beijing’s best shopping is right on your doorstep from the hotel. The Sanlitun village development is brimming with the city’s funkiest designers and international labels.

Price
From $400 USD per room per night + taxes and charges
