“I spent four wonderful days there with my fiancé at the end of last summer and would highly recommend it for a little romantic vacation. With only nine individually designed rooms, you will feel like you’re at someone’s home rather than at a hotel at this intimate property in quaint and low-key Bernalda. And while Palazzo Margherita does not have all the typical hotel amenities, the lack thereof makes it such a fascinating place to stay. Director and owner Francis Ford Coppola didn’t miss any details - such as the frescoed ceilings, the salon that converts into a screening room at night or the magical garden - when he converted this 19th century mansion with the help of star interior decorator Jacques Grange. Instead of a formal restaurant, enjoy lunch or dinner at the communal table in the homey kitchen, the courtyard or garden. While the ambiance is super-relaxed, the service is spot-on.”

Someone that wants to get away from it all. You can spend the days relaxing at the pool and garden, or taking cooking classes. A rental car is highly recommended to explore the area and head to Matera (famous for its ancient cave dwellings), local wineries or a visit to a “masseria” – a working farm - where you can participate in the harvest, try your hands at making focaccia and end the day dining al fresco with the farm and his staff and family.
Anyone you love. This is the place to go for both a romantic getaway but also for a multi-generational trip.
Strolling the idyllic garden in the early morning hours with an espresso in hand when the air is crisp and you can enjoy the scent of lavender and rosemary.
