Palazzo Sasso

RAVELLO, ITALY

"Italian elegance with international high service standards and truly jaw-dropping views. The best place to stay in Ravello.”
-Suzanne (Date Experienced: June 2009)

Great for
Romanzo fantastico

With whom
That's personal!

Memorable moment
Waking up from my post lunch siesta and noticing my book page had been bookmarked with a Palazzo Sasso insignia so I'd not loose my page...

Best time to go
July through October sees famous classical music concerts held on a stage over-hanging the sea. Hot July and August, but what a wonderful musical experience it is.

With the kids
Leave them at home (unless on longer trip that suits them)

Be aware
Not beach side — the hotel's beach club is a complimentary 15 minute transfer away

Room options
32 rooms and 11 suites. Classic Italian decor in natural, pastel colors with vaulted ceilings. Make sure you stay with a sea-side view (Belvedere, Infinito and Horizonte suites have private balconies).

Service & vibe
Understated, elegant and old fashioned. Respect.

Food
Rossellini's is their two Michelin-starred menu which never disappoints for those who dine here. The candle-lit terrace overlooking the sea is prime honeymooner territory.

From €264 – but this is for a room with no view, sea-facing rooms start from €424

Costs less to go
April — the weather is still good although the sea hasn't had the chance to warm up yet

To Do & See
Enjoy the scenery or learn to cook classic Italian dishes at Mama Agata's cookery school (www.mammaagata.com). Forget driving to the other towns and cities — go by water, the hotel can arrange various boat trips.

Sport & Activity
The outdoor pool has lovely terraces and is among the best in Italy. The hotel provides transfers to their beach villa, 'Sasso by the Sea', in Marmorata, a 15-minute drive away.

Spa & Grooming
The spa is small but pampering and the rooftop terrace features two hydro massage pools.

To Eat
Bustling, family-run, local favorite Cumpa' Cosimo is always a treat (44 Via Roma; +39 (0)89 857 156). Fantastic gardens and seaside terraces at Il Flauto Di Pan at Villa Cimbrone (26 Via Santa Chiara; + 39 (0)89 857 459).

To Buy
Beautiful ceramics at Ceramiche d'Art (22 Via Roma)

Super Services
Italy Limousine have friendly, knowledgeable – and punctual! – drivers to take you around the area (+39 081 808 0457)

Itinerary Idea
Driving along the Amalfi Coast is a classic but has still got it!
