Six Senses Douro Valley
“Wow! What a gorgeous, unique getaway my girlfriends and I had in the middle of wine country! Our stay at the Six Senses in Douro Valley was as restful as it was unusual. Prior to visiting, we heard from some online reviews about the dark interior. Yes, the interior lighting is a bit dark, but there was plenty of natural light available in our room and the surrounding areas are so beautiful that we were very happy to sit outside by the pool and on the terrace to enjoy the view!
The gardens are delightful and to eat breakfast outside at the start of a warm, sunny day was a treat. We also ate at the hotel restaurant for two nights and tried the tasting menu each time (delicious, and included things I may not have been adventurous to order a la carte). We thought that the food and view here was better than at the nearby DOC Restaurant, which we also visited. The staff couldn’t have possibly been more helpful. They arranged for two winery visits / tastings (and included directions) that were wonderful, and made our trip. The property is a joy for the eye, creative, and generally a work of art.”

A trip to get away from it all, enjoy the most amazing wine offerings of the area, and pamper at a spa that is glorious and special.
A group of friends, or your partner. It’s a very relaxing and romantic property.
We had an amazing wine tasting with Pierre, the staff sommelier who hosts a tasting for 5 euros each evening with different wines each night from around the Douro Valley - a very knowledgeable gentlemen who is enthusiastic about his work, and makes it a delight for all!
Best time to go
High season is June and July, so shoot for early fall during the harvest season! Beautiful weather, and a bit more quiet.
The resort is located 90 minutes driving distance from International Airport Francisco Sá Carneiro in Oporto, and 4 hours driving distance from Lisbon, but the drive is beautiful! Not easy to get to... but worthwhile nonetheless.
Rooms start at about 400 Euros a night, depending on timing and availability.
