The Dolder Grand
“I think The Dolder Grand is one of those places that you just have to visit in your lifetime. It’s straight out of a winter wonderland fairytale, or as my partner suggested, even a James Bond film. This is a place of pure luxury and elegance that you only come across every once in a while. My husband and I wanted to spend our 10th anniversary somewhere fairly secluded but with access to another town/small city. The Dolder Grand is set high in the mountains with views that words cannot describe.
The view from the balcony of our room faced the lake, the mountains and the city, and was stunning both day and night. I could have easily spent a whole day in the spa which is one of the best I’ve ever experienced (be sure to check out the snow room, there’s nothing like it!). After our spa, we got dressed up and headed for The Restaurant, where my husband swears he had the best burger in the entire world. One night we got the shuttle to old town Zurich, and experienced what I’m convinced is the best apple strudel in Europe, highly recommended by the concierge. The trip was exactly what we were looking for, and I can’t say enough about this amazing classic hotel.”

Switching off for a few days. Because it’s out of town, you trade off the view for the relative isolation compared to other hotels in the city center, but it’s worth it!
Your partner, or even alone. I wouldn’t mind coming back for a solo trip to relax and spend a great deal of time in spa, likely one of the best in Europe.
Cozying up in the piano bar by the fire while enjoying some of the bar’s original cocktails. It was nice to have nothing to do other than enjoy each other’s company in such a magical place. I’ll never forget the moment.
Best time to go
It is not ideal if you want to be very close to off-site shops, restaurants and bars, due to its somewhat remote location. However, it is perfect if you are on holiday or have a leisurely business trip.
The resort is located 90 minutes driving distance from International Airport Francisco Sá Carneiro in Oporto, and 4 hours driving distance from Lisbon, but the drive is beautiful! Not easy to get to... but worthwhile nonetheless.
Rooms start at $700 per night
