The Farm at Cape Kidnappers
TE AWANGA, HAWKE'S BAY, NEW ZEALAND
“It’s hard to put into words how much my son and I loved Cape Kidnappers. First, it is anything but pretentious, yet we were never left wanting for anything. Second, I have played golf in 40 countries, and this might have been the most beautiful course I’ve seen! We played the challenging course twice, hiked out to Black Reef and had the whole Black Reef Gannet Colony to ourselves.
I enjoyed magnificent wines (Joe the sommelier is great), and we both enjoyed beautifully prepared meals (gentlemen, bring your jackets for dinner.) There is just so much to do at the lodge. We enjoyed after dinner star gazing with the in-house astronomer Gary Sparks on the lodge lawn, and my son’s personal favorite, a sheep/dog show right on the property. Do visit the sheep station if you get a chance to; the guys who gave us a sheering demonstration were great and incredibly knowledgeable. We really loved every minute of our stay and only wish we had more time to further take it all in!”

Enjoying your favorite game in the most picturesque setting. It has been hailed as one of the great modern marvels in golf. We drove a cart all around the course and took photos from the cliffs. I don’t want to ever forget the views!
This place is heaven for golf lovers (of all levels), but even if you don’t play the game there are plenty other things to do!
My son and I attended a golf clinic with PGA professional, Jon McCord. He and his staff examined the short game, full swing and nuances of navigating the course designed by Tom Doak. It was perfect for both of us: my son, who is just being introduced to the game, and me for honing my skills. You can’t get personalized lessons in such a beautiful setting anywhere else!
Best time to go
Go in the summer when the best activities are offered.
This isn’t for people who love the "hotspots". This is the place to find peace, solidity and comfort… and a great game of golf.
Pricey … but worth it if you don’t have budget constraints. Rooms start at over $1,000 a night in the winter, but go up substantially in summer season.
