Tintswalo Atlantic

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

“In the base of a cliff top just outside of Cape Town overlooking the Atlantic in a cove — a relaxed base to explore the area. The wooden and glass property blends sympathetically into the surroundings — and what surroundings! Lovely personal touches make it feel like home: homemade biscuits, staff who can't do enough and suites with separate entries that feel like individual houses. A Top pick for the Cape Town area.”

Great for
A scenically located Cape Town area stay without the bustle of the city and costs less than other top-end properties.

With whom
As a couple or a group

Memorable moment
Staying in bed a half day! Whilst watching the violent storm, waves crashing etc through our sliding deck doors.

Best time to go
When the whales are there — July through November

With the kids
Absolutely! Especially in whaling season.

Be aware
Not central — but the 20 minute drive into Cape Town/Constantia is easy.

Attentive, kind service — staff always on hand to offer drinks and suggestions, and will drive you around so you don't need to rent a car.

Food
Up to you — the Chef asks what you feel like for every meal if you desire.

Price
From $480, includes Afternoon Tea &anp; Cake and House Drinks

Costs less to go
May & June

To Do & See
Watch the whales from the public/private decks, head into Cape Town for shopping and exploration; pretty Constantia wine country is a mere 20 minutes away as are other small towns. Penguin colony, shark diving — fun!

Sport & Activity
So much... hike Table Mountain National Park, head out sea kayaking, take the boat to seal island... Very wholesome.

Spa & Grooming
A massage therapist can be arranged for in-suite private treatments.

To Eat
Cape Town's finest is Jardine: laid back vibe, phenomenal food (185 Bree Street; +27 21 424 5640). One of my fave dinners ever was at Constantia Utsig (Spaanschemat River Road; +27 (0) 21 794 6500).

To Buy
Local designers in Cape Town boutiques and local artists at the V&A Waterfront (contrary to most press, the V&A is otherwise touristy and not worth your time)

Itinerary Idea
South Africa is brimming with amazing scenery — take a trip along the Garden Route, to Hermanus and/or into the Winelands.
