Villa Principe Leopoldo Hotel and Spa
“I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel 10 years ago when I was living in Switzerland. I knew I wanted to return and I am happy to say, my return was everything I expected and more. Lugano is a magical place situated between Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. With its views of the lake and Alps, its temperate climate, its Italian heritage, language and food, Lugano is an ideal choice for spring, early summer and fall. The Villa Principe Leopoldo offers friendly, impeccable service with spacious, newly re-furbished guest rooms, outdoor bar and restaurant pavillons, fresh and delicious food choices and best of all, amazing views of the Lake and surrounding mountains. What could be better than Italy in Switzerland?”

A few relaxing days while touring Switzerland or Italy. The Villa Principe Leopoldo is a small boutique hotel and spa located in the Paradiso area of Lugano. Its two heated pools, fitness center and spa will keep you happily relaxed and pampered. A rental car is the way to get around. A picturesque 30 minute drive along the Lake will take you to either Lake Maggiore or Lake Como. A ferry ride is also a beautiful way to see the towns on Lake Lugano, a delightful Swiss experience. The hotel offers a van service into the city of Lugano (less than 10 minutes) where there is nice shopping, good restaurants and pretty walks along the lake. Treat yourself to a yogurt- flavored gelato at one of the lakeside La Gelateria di Lugano. Upon returning to the hotel, enjoy a cocktail in the cozy Principe Piano Bar or at the Panoramic Terrace Bar. And do reserve a table for dinner at the Pavillion Restaurant where the cuisine, service and views all compete for first place! Pricey but worth it!
In my case, my husband of 47 years!
Just steps from the lobby is a view of the curve of the mountain meeting the gulf of Lake Lugano…beautiful!
Best time to go
From April till July you can enjoy the Lugano Festival of classical music and more and in late June and early July there is the open air and free of charge, Lugano Jazz Festival.
Arriving by rental car at night can be a bit confusing so be sure to have your GPS along. The hotel is in a residential area, above the city. The Restaurant Principe Leopoldo is very popular among locals as well as tourists so be sure to book a table to enjoy the very special ambiance of this glassed- in pavilion with 300 degree mountain and lake views.
From 400 Swiss Francs per night.
