When a skin-care line lists classic beauties such as Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo and Jackie Kennedy as fans, it is hard not to expect real passion and integrity in a brand that has lasted for generations. Erno Laszlo delivers on style, quality and class. The original brand launched in 1927 but they have staged a dramatic come-back with the opening of a new Soho salon last year.
The result is an up-to-the-minute modern spa-of-sorts which remains true to the classic products and philosophies of its creator. Even the interiors have a retro-glam, Art Deco townhouse vibe, that feels elegant rather than sparse - an affliction of many modern beauty havens. It runs a membership model, which is also cleverly conceptualized for those who visit, and is not limited to NY-area residents.
Branded products are a mix of original formulations (such as the Erno Laszlo Active Phelityl Pre-Cleansing Oil, a mixture of sunflower, safflower, sesame oils, avocado and Kurzii seeds) and new recipes - all very effective. Therapists customize the legendary serums and treatments to meet whatever skin need you might have, from enzyme peels to light therapy. Facials are a good mixture of dermatology and pampering - I went in with a head cold and came out glowing ready to go to an opening that night; spots extracted and dryness soothed. What was so adorable was the care and kindness of the entire staff – two of whom emailed me the next day to see how I was feeling and asked if I made it to my event.
To keep skin looking that good, you really need to buy the products and use them consistently, which can be a bit time consuming, but does yield results. Audrey Hepburn famously said: '50% of my beauty I owe to my mother, 50% to Erno Laszlo'.

When you do the math you’ll see each treatment comes up as no more expensive than the top facials in NYC. Plus: members get a consultation with a dermatologist, custom skin rejuvenation and a minimum of fifteen facials and peels using those famous personalized serums and products. Included are services like eyebrow wax/shaping and make-up application for special occasions.
