Sotheby’s Wine Retail Store
UPPER EAST SIDE, NEW YORK CITY
“Last April I was visiting an old friend on York Avenue in the East 70’s. Lucky for me, inside Sotheby’s headquarters on New York’s Upper East Side, I discovered Sotheby’s Wine – a sleek, beautifully laid out and manageable store. I was so impressed with the user-friendliness, the carefully curated selections (across a range of price points) and very knowledgeable staff, that in 20 minutes I had purchased a special gift, opened a personal account and scheduled a phone consultation with Sotheby’s Wine President Jamie Ritchie. Excellent experience, and has been since!”

Why it's Worth It
While primarily known for its high-end auction business, the Sotheby’s Wine retail and online stores offer an easy-to-navigate variety of wines within their given regions and price points – which makes the searching /buying process more of a sure bet. The range includes lesser-known wines, such as Domaine Françoise & Denis Clair’s Saint-Aubin, Les Frionnes, to hard-to-find wines, such as Domaine Saint Préfert’s Châteauneuf du Papes, to Sotheby’s exclusives, such as R & L Legras, Blanc de Blancs, Grand Cru Champagne, which is produced by Julien Barbier (and is truly exceptional).
Your wine expert-resource. The Sotheby’s Wine ‘ethos’ is to provide only the top quality and value within each range/region. You can’t go wrong to outsource your wine buying, collection building, gifting, etc. to their team.
Always there to help match the best quality to your budget, the Sotheby’s Wine team was able to go out of their way to select bottles which offer great value, such as Château Puygueraud 2009 at $19.95. At the higher level, they also selected First Growth, Château Haut-Brion 1998 at $695 and DRC’s La Tâche 1996 at $3,495, for very (very!) special occasions.
Retail & Online Store and Delivery
Store Hours: Monday through Friday; 10 am to 7 pm and Saturday; 10 am to 6 pm.
Can’t make it to the store? Call them for delivery (in Manhattan in Sotheby’s Wines own temperature-controlled van), which is free for purchases of more than $225.
The online store, whose inventory is on par with the retail store, is open 24/7 and orders can be shipped via Fedex to most places in the world (local laws permitting).
Sotheby’s Wine’s fab website with its dynamic filtering system is like no other wine retail website we have encountered. While most online wine retailers generally require users to focus on a country to search for a wine, this one allows you to search for your ideal pick based on your priorities. Their assortment of Bordeaux half bottles is impressive as well.
Bottle prices range from $14.00 to $40,000 per bottle! No matter what you are looking for, there are at least a couple of stellar choices, selected on rigorous merit.
While there are no discounts on purchases by the case, prices are very competitive with other wine retailers.
