Canal House

“I really love the vibrancy of Amsterdam; the mix of old-world museums with an energetic 21st-century culture. Canal House perfectly captured this for me. A row of 17th-century merchants’ houses has been transformed into an up-to-the-minute hotel with funky, eclectic decor. Interiors have apparently been inspired by the light and palette of Dutch Old Masters and the effect is very glam and very dramatic.

The rooms are modern, but with a few historical touches such as antiques and classic art alongside mid-century furniture and contemporary photography. Definitely a place to show off your fashion street cred: the restaurant is as much as hipster see-and-be-seen spot as it is a good evening option. However, style never trumps substance - I felt I was in good hands for the entire stay, with friendly and efficient staff as well-versed in the classics as they were in more contemporary ideas for activities (like the don’t-miss Sunday arts market)."
