Castello di Vicarello

“This incredible ancient castle (circa 1100) overlooking the Maremma countryside, has just seven rooms mixing antiques with modern. Despite the hidden location and relaxed vibe, there are also two outdoor fresh-water pools, spa, vineyards, olive groves — a Tuscan idyll! PLUS... head over in winter and hunt wild boar in the private hunting reserve. A unique experience that we loved being a part of.”

Great for
Getting away from it all, but still in Tuscany; very special hunting experience

With whom
Seriously romantic setting — too small to head to with kids, unless you rent privately for extended family/friends trip

Memorable moment
Heading back to the hotel after the hunt and having a boar cookery class — felt like we really used the animal the best we could

Best time to go
Either spring for the sun, or October-March for the hunt

Be aware
NOT easy to drive to (and very little GPS signal) — get detailed instructions from owners Aurora or Carlo before setting off. Restaurant good, not great.

Price per night
From €370 (Price on request for exclusive rental)
