“A real get-away-from-it-all escape for true rest and recharge. Surrounded by woodland, lakes and countryside, the country-chic and uber-cool designed cottages are certainly the most chic in Connecticut. Service is spot-on and the whole vibe is very relaxed yet polished — a real country idyll with mod cons and design which impresses. Can't wait to return.”

Great for
Getting out into the countryside for a bike ride and enjoying your epicurean callings.

With whom
Friends or a partner — a great place for a cozy romantic weekend, or an out-of city getaway with friends. Kids over 10 of a certain nature will enjoy.

Memorable moment
Borrowing one of their bikes and exploring the countryside — so much to see and so peaceful.

Best time to go
Late spring, summer and autumn are lovely. Winter is wonderful for cozying up by the fire and cross-country skiing.

With the kids
Kids and pets are welcome and will enjoy

Be aware
No pool is a down-side in summer months

Room options
15 cottages designed by 15 different architects. From classic to crazy: My favourite is the Charter Oak with a live oak tree growing through the centre. The Helicopter room (most funky and kids will remember it always) is built around a 1968 fully restored Sikorsky HH37 Sea King Pelican Helicopter!

Service & vibe
Smooth service, very personal and attentive. Vibe is relaxed without sacrificing service or style.

Delicious French-inspired food. Seasonal, simple and local — ingredients come from the hotel's gardens. Wine cellar impresses even connoisseurs.

From $650, including breakfast; or from $1,950 all inclusive

Costs less to go
During the week; certain periods. The whole property can be booked for a wedding or business off-site. Fab.

To Do & See
Exploring the surrounding woods, lake and land are a must. For antiquing take one of the hotel's Mercedes Benzes out to Litchfield.

Sport & Activity
113 acres — and plenty of sensible footwear to borrow. Plus each cottage comes with two bikes and the hotel can arrange canoeing, horse riding etc.

Spa & Grooming
5,000 square foot earthy spa — six signature treatment rooms, wet rooms, sunlight sauna and reflecting pool. Up-to-date yet cosy (think: fireplaces, etc.) with talented staff.
